Margery R. Knittel, 82, of Rome, formerly of Utica, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Rome Memorial Hospital. Margery was born July 15, 1931 in Utica, NY, the daughter of Carl and Marion (Driscol) Knittel. She was raised and educated in Utica. Margery was employed for 49 years with General Electric, and later with Lockheed Martin until her retirement. Growing up, she had been a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica. Since moving to Rome to live with her daughter, she has belonged to St. John the Baptist Church. Marge enjoyed watching her soap operas as well as reading the soap opera magazines. She also enjoyed watching old game shows and internet shopping. Marge will be remembered as a hard worker. She loved to read, including her Bible, daily. Margery is survived by her daughter, Carol Wells, Rome; three grandchildren, Robert Wells, Jr. (and Jeremy Roser), South Carolina, Amanda (and Chad) Hotlen, Florida, and Anna Wells, Utica; as well as by twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Eugene Manley, Marcy. Marge is predeceased by a sister, Sue Galwski. Margery's funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9 - 11 am prior to the service. Those wishing may donate to a charity of your choice in Margery's memory.
