Joseph L. Ouimette, 76, of Holland Patent passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born in Utica on December 26, 1937 a son of Walter and Julia (Miller) Ouimette. He was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of New York Mills High School. Joseph was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Bristol. Joseph was united in marriage to Marilyn Dwyer at St. Joseph's Church, Utica in October of 1962. For many years until his retirement in 1994 Joseph was employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. He was a member of St. Leo's Church, Holland Patent, American Legion Post #229, IBEW, The Kilowatts, and the Trenton Town Board. Joseph had many interests especially being a High School Sports enthusiast and car enthusiast. He was a proud member of "Stash's Garage". Most important to Joseph were his grandchildren. He derived great joy in the time he spent with them. They were the "light" of his life, brightening his day. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, Two sons, Thomas Ouimette and Tracy Powrozek, Syracuse and Barry Ouimette and wife Donna, East Greenbush, NY, three grandchildren, Dylan, Derek and Kendyl, a brother and sister-in-law, William and Dorothy Ouimette, Clinton, a special friend, Frank Colby and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Lloyd Gore. Mr. Ouimette's funeral will be held on Saturday May 10, 2014 at 10:30 from St. Leo's Church, Holland Patent. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica are Friday from 4 - 7. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to Hospice and Palliative Care, a Veterans Organization or a Charity of your choice.
