UTICA - Christina M. Maziarz, 56, of Utica, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 5, 2014 from The Pines of Utica Nursing Home, with her loving family by her side. Christina was born August 20, 1957, in Utica, the daughter of John, Jr. and Eileen (Baird) Douglas. She was a 1975 graduate of West Canada Valley High School and went on to attend St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. In 1976, Christina married Edward Maziarz. She was employed with various business to support her family, although her heart's desire was always to be a stay-at-home mom so she could love and nurture her family entrusted to her by God. Christina was a parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church, Utica and a Eucharistic Apostle of the Perpetual Adoration. She loved nature and all of the artistry in God's creation of the outdoors. Christina is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Catherine Maziarz, MD; her daughter, Andrea Maziarz, Rome; three granddaughters, Rachel, Abigail, and Autumn Maziarz, Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, John, III and Priscilla Ann Douglas, DE; a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Lawrence Bierman, New York Mills; a sister-in-law, Donna Douglas, DE; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Stepanowicz, Newport; her Goddaughter, Monica Sharma, Watertown; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. She is predeceased by her brother, Gerald Douglas and her sister, Cynthia Stepanowicz. Ms. Maziarz funeral will take place on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church, Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated. Interment and Rite of Committal will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Newport. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica, Thursday evening, from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Lupus Foundation of America in Christina's memory. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Sue Maziarz, the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center and the staff of the Pines at Utica Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to both Christina and her family over the last several months. Christina personally offered her thanks to those who showed love and mercy to her and her children along the way.
