Obituary of Frances Pugh

Frances "Rusty' Pugh, 86, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, March 14,2014 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, after a brief illness. Frances was born in Utica, June 2, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Weir) Griffith. She attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Patrick's School in 1941. She furthered her education, and later obtained her Master of Science Degree, at Syracuse University, in 1979. Rusty taught Adult Education Sewing Classes, in Holland Patent, as well as a Displaced Homemakers Class for BOCES. She then worked for the New York State Occupational Therapy Department, and ended her career, by working in the Vocational Therapy Department. In 1950,Frances was married to Lyle Pugh, who passed away in 1995. With her family, Rusty owned and operated the Woodside, a local drive-in, located in Holland Patent until 1980. Frances was a very outspoken, strong willed and independent lady. She had a great passion for painting, golf, a good bridge game, and after retirement the relaxation of a good book. Rusty enjoyed spending time with her family and encouraged all of them to get a good education. Frances is survived by one daughter, three sons, and their spouses, Dorcas and Anthony Tartaglia, Craig and Edie Pugh, Darryl and MaryEllen Pugh, and Aaron and Barbara Pugh; six grandchildren, Brett and Brittany Pugh, Greta and Marla Pugh and Colin and Daniel Pugh; her niece and nephew, Emogene Catrombone and Joe Griffith. She also leaves, her lifelong friend, Dorcas Miller and her long time family friend, Roxanne Heacock. Besides her parents, she was predeceased a brother, Joseph Griffith Jr. The family would like to thank Julie Gorczynski , PA, the staff at Faxton- St. Luke's Emergency Dept., and the Third Floor Staff for all their dedicated service. A special thanks to her wonderful nurses, Inna, Kelly, Tuyen, and Joanna for the excellent care and compassion given. Thank you to Dr. Chase and Dr. Sidsiqui . And a great thank you to Dr. Jorge Ferreiro, for the great care and support at a time of need, and who would brighten up Frances' day as soon as you walked in the room. Graveside Services for Frances, will be held in the spring at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland, NY at a time to be announced in a later edition of the paper. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in Rusty's memory.
