Obituary of Peter R. DeLett

Mr. Peter R. DeLett, 87, of Yorkville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. Peter was born in Utica on May 29, 1930, the son of Peter J. and Mae (McGovern) DeLett and received his education in Whitesboro Schools. For 13 years, he proudly served in the US Army reserves. On April 19, 1952, Peter married Shirley Ann Clifford at Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica, a loving union of 65 years. For many years, Peter was owner and operator of D & G Oil Company Inc., in Utica. From 1979 until 1994 he was employed with Whitesboro Central School and later assisted his son Kevin at Kevin DeLett Plumbing and Heating Company. Peter was a member of America Legion Whitestown Post 1179, the Whitestown Vets and was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Whitesboro. He enjoyed taking care of his Classic Lincoln Town Car, watching the NY Yankees and NY Giants games with his son, grandsons and close friends and spending time discussing current events over a cold beer with family and friends. Peter also enjoyed playing the piano and singing old time songs. Mr. DeLett is survived by his beloved wife Shirley; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Darren Pohorecki of Whitesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Cyndie DeLett of Whitesboro; 10 cherished grandchildren, Kimberly DeLett, Katherine DeLett, Kristen DeLett, Karrie Patenaude and her husband Henry, Kevin DeLett, Jr. and his wife Renee, Kyle DeLett, Kaitlyn DeLett, Sabra Jones, Gregory Pohorecki and Megan Pohorecki; a sister-in-law, Pat DeLett and his close friend, Bob Nichols. Also surviving are 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Rosemary DeLett and brother Doug DeLett. Mr. DeLett’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. His Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
