Obituary of Anthony J. Constantine

Mr. Anthony J. Constantine, 86, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY in New Hartford, formerly of Whitesboro, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the nursing home. Anthony was born in Utica on June 1, 1927, the son of Neno and Mary (Stewart) (Del Guidice) Constantine and received his education in Utica schools. He honorably served in the US Marine Corps during WW II. For over 65 years, Anthony was married to Shirley (Thomann) Constantine until her death in 2010. For many years, he was employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Company, retiring in 1987. Anthony was a former parishioner of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. He was a member of the National Grid Retirees Club, National Grid 25 Year Club, Utilities Employee Association, Whitestown Seniors and NY Mills Seniors. He was also an avid golfer and member of Hidden Valley Golf Course and enjoyed spending the winter months in New Smyrna Beach, FL with his beloved wife Shirley. Mr. Constantine is survived by his daughter, Susan Constantine of Whitesboro; son and daughter-in-law, James and Lois Constantine of Clayville, NY; granddaughter, Tammy Benton and her husband Micah of Waterbury, CT; grandson, Harry Jackson and Heather Watson of Oneida, NY; great grandsons, Brandon Steates of Oneida, NY and Anthony James Benton of Waterbury, CT; one sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Jack Webb of NY Mills; three brothers, Neno Constantine, Michael Constantine and Merill Constantine all of Utica; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Constantine of Utica and Patricia Werczynski of Herkimer; two brothers-in-law, Christopher Thomann of Forestport, NY and Richard Thomann and his wife Diane of Marcy, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Gerald Mattia, four brothers and a sister-in-law, Vincent and Mary Constantine, Richard Constantine, Edward Constantine and Ronald Constantine; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Constantine, Grace Constantine and Evelyn Thomann and two brothers-in-law, John G. Thomann, Jr. and John Werczynski, Sr. Mr. Constantine's funeral will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:30 at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum in Yorkville. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Anthony's memory. Mr. Constantine's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff on the Cedar Unit and Elm unit at the Presbyterian Home for the loving care and compassion given to Anthony.
