Mary R. Leary, 72, of Utica, passed away at her home with her family by her side on Sunday, January 5, 2014, after a long illness. Mary was born December 17, 1941 in Cooperstown, NY, the daughter of Clifford and Mary Bezold. She was raised and educated in Richfield Springs, NY. On May 5, 1962, Mary married Thomas A. Leary. With her husband, she owned and operated Green Acres Community and Estate Homes. Mary had been an active volunteer and supporter of the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. She was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Mark's Church in North Utica. Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas Leary, Utica; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Kerry Leary, Oneonta, William and Dana Leary, five grandchildren, Molly, Jeremy, Kiernan, Emilee, and AnneMarie Leary; cousins, Don and Muriel Clarke, Andes, NY. Mrs. Leary's funeral service will take place Wednesday evening, January 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica with Fr. Mark Pasik presiding. Interment, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs, will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4 - 7 pm, prior to the service. Those wishing may donate to the Abraham House in Mary's memory. The family would like to sincerely thank all of the caregivers who took excellent care of Mary, especially those who were with them for long periods of time, you know who you are.
