Lewis F.X. Cotignola, Jr., 81, of Florida and Inlet, NY, passed away and rejoined his wife, on Friday, December 13, 2013 while at the Presbyterian Home for CNY in New Hartford. Lewis was born April 26, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Lewis F.X., Sr. and Lillian (O'Brien) Cotignola. He was raised and educated in Bellerose, NY and a graduate of Fairfield University in Connecticut. Lewis then went on to serve his country with the US Marines as well as the US Army during the Korean War. On June 22, 1957, Lewis married Patricia E. Gaffney in Floral Park, NY. Pat passed away in 2012, after a blessed union of 55 years. Lewis had been employed with Grumman Aerospace in Long Island. He and his wife were active members of St. Thomas More Traditional Catholic Church in Utica. He greatly enjoyed the Adirondacks, especially 4th Lake and loved spending time with his family. Lewis is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Caren and Robert VanderMaas, East Northport, Long Island, Jean and Stephen Bussone, Chads Ford, PA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lewis F.X., III and Patricia J. Cotignola, Prospect, NY, and Christopher Cotignola, Nyack, NY; two grandchildren, Lauren VanderMaas and Joseph VanderMaas, both of East Northport, Long Island. Mr. Cotignola's funeral will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas More Traditional Catholic Church in Utica. Interment will take place in the spring in Prospect Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, Friday evening, from 4 - 7 pm.
