Margaret (Lopata) Bialek, 94, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Dorothy in Westmoreland surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Utica on September 24, 1919, daughter of Walenty and Regina (Florek) Lopata. She attended local schools and graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1938. On May 25, 1941, she married Mathew Bialek in Holy Trinity Church, where she was a choir member. She was a former member of the Christ Child Society, Na-Ki-Yan Club, Golden Agers Club and the Ten Pin Club. She was a member of the North Utica Senior Center for over 25 years, as well as the Deerfield Seniors, West Side Seniors, and RSVP. Besides being a homemaker and a wonderful mother, she worked at the Cotton Mill, Boston Store, and Grants. After she retired from Scheidelman's Wholesale Grocery, she worked as an election official. As an active member of St. Peter's Church for over 60 years, she attended Tuesday evening Novenas every week, and prayed the Rosary every day. She called bingo there, enjoyed singing in the choir, and being part of the Funeral Ministry. She loved to listen to polkas, going to summer concerts and festivals, and playing Rummy and Scrabble. As an avid gardener, she grew spectacular roses, African violets and Christmas cactus. She also belonged to several bowling leagues. Margaret is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Rewkowski and her husband Mark of Westmoreland, who lovingly cared for her for the past several years, Virginia Patrician, Bradenton, FL and Joan and Robert Purpura, Rome, sister-in-law, Jane Lopata, Deerfield; grandchildren, Suzanne and Ron Burnham, Gardiner, ME, Andrew and Trisha Patrician, Greenfield, NH, Kory Aversa, Philadelphia, PA; Kevin Rewkowski, Boston, MA, and Christine Purpura, Buffalo, great grandchildren, Patrick, Laura and Derrick Burnham and Kasey Patrician and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Mathew in 1982, three brothers, John, Joseph and Stanley and one sister, Victoria Pluta. Mrs. Bialek's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday December 7, 2013 at 1:00pm at St. Peter's Church, N. Utica with Father Mark Pasik, a family friend officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica will take place Saturday morning from 11 - 12:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice or to the Deerfield Seniors. The family would like to thank Hospice and their nurses, Kim and Ann, for their care and especially, Georgia Harney, for her dedication, excellent care, comfort and friendship that she gave to Margaret.
