Obituary of Genevieve E. Pittman

Mrs. Genevieve E. Pittman, 87, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2013 in the comfort of her daughter's home, with family by her side. Genevieve was born in Utica, NY on April 17, 1926, the daughter of William Parry and Rena Niles. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica City Schools. On March 9, 1946 Genevieve was united in marriage to Theodore G. Pittman, a union of 52 years. Genevieve was a gifted worker, often working two or three jobs to support her family. In May of 1989, she retired from Commercial Travelers Insurance Company in Utica, a job she thoroughly enjoyed for over 30 years. Genevieve was a lifelong parishioner of Moriah Presbyterian Church and until her illness attended services regularly. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering and did so regularly at The Masonic Home, RCIL, St. Luke's Hospital and the North Utica Senior Center. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband Theodore, her brothers Stanley and Francis Perry, and her sister Gladys Bashant. Genevieve is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Don Lenczewski, of Forestport, NY; two beloved grandchildren and their spouses, David and Sandra Lenczewski of Utica and Tanya and Kenneth Pennock of Albany, NY; her cherished great-grandchildren: Kyle, Zachery, Cody Lenczewski and Emma Genevieve Pennock along with several nieces and nephews, notably close to her: Bill and Sandy Bashant. Special thanks to her wonderful niece Joyce Semerraro of Utica, neighbors Cynthia Oderkirk and her son Timmy for all their care and attention. Also, Lois Baker and her son Jeff, special friends Fran Evans, June Taylor and Evie Damsky, along with Hospice and all of their wonderful care providers. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 6th, 2013 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica, from 3:30pm - 6:30pm. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at The Heintz Funeral Home at 10am Saturday December 7th, 2013 with Rev. Judy Westerhoff presiding, followed by her burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations on Genevieve's behalf to: Hospice and Palliative Care. Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
