Obituary of Kenneth H. Rowland

Mr. Kenneth H. Rowland, 90, a resident of Willow Park Assisted Living Facility in N. Utica, formerly of NY Mills and Faass Ave., Utica, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Ken was born on May 2, 1923 in Ilion, NY the son of Floyd and Marguerite (Thiel) Rowland. Ken was a devoted military man who served in the US Army during WW II under General Patton's 3rd Army and the 7th Army. After returning home from WW II, he married Celine Ouimet in Montreal Canada and the couple had two daughters and a son. Ken retired from the US Army in 1972 after serving over 20 years. He later married Carmela Wood On November 3, 1967. For over 39 years, he was employed with Union Fork and Hoe Company in Frankfort, NY He was a proud member of many military organizations, including; Veterans of The Battle of The Bulge, Disabled American Veterans, Whitestown Vets, and American Legion Utica Post 229 in N. Utica. He was a former member of American Legion Post 1376 in New Hartford and St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Mr. Rowland is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Wright of Weedsport, NY and Christine Lane of Syracuse; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Rose Rowland of Johnstown, NY; six beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Julie (Steve) Sliski, Brett Stanburg, Erik Rowland, Kristin Pylman, Bob (Lisa) Lane and Ryan (Laura) Lane; three sisters, Ella Cool of Herkimer, Nancy (Gene) Pry of VA and Patty (Richard) Lindsey of Utica; one brother, Harry (Cindy) Rowland of Utica as well as 10 great grandchildren and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Ann Simonson, Minnie Delisle and Thelma Kingwater and two brothers, Ted Rowland and Richard Murphy. Mr. Rowland's Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. His entombment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the Convenience of his family. Memorial calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Please omit floral offerings and consider making a donation to your favorite charity in Kenneth's memory.
