Whitesboro - Dorothy A. (Marrone (Buono)) Smith, 92, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, New Hartford, formerly of Whitesboro, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the home. Dorothy was born April 5, 1921 in Utica, the daughter of Castrese and Mary (Prato) Marrone. She was raised and educated locally and went on to graduate with her Bachelor's Degree from St. Joseph's College in Maryland. After college, Dorothy married Paul Buono. She had worked as the Head Medical Technician for various labs in the Utica area before going to Florida and working for Dr. Payton Denton. Dorothy had later been married to Raymond Smith, until his passing in 2009. She was of the Catholic faith and a former member of Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Buono, Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Patricia Buono, Whitesboro; three grandchildren, Christopher (and Amanda) Buono, GA, Jennifer Buono, Utica, Vanessa Buono, Whitesboro; four great grandchildren, James Fierro III, Joseph Buono, Lydia Buono, and Stephen Buono; two stepsons and their wives, David and Sona Smith, Stephen and Bonnie Smith, both of Florida, step grandchildren, Jeff and Nicholas Smith, Jerrod and Ryan Smith, all of Florida. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by five sisters and four brothers. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:00 am at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013 from 4 - 7 pm.
