Obituary of Donald F. Poirier

Donald F. Poirier, 82 of Little Falls and formerly of Utica passed away at home with his family by his side on Thursday, August 29, 2013 after a long battle with ALS. Donald was born in Utica on August 19, 1931 a son of the late Frank E. and Helen M. (Curtis) Poirier. Donald served in the Army during the Korean War. In Utica in 1958 he married Gwendolyn Brownrigg. For many years until his retirement in 1993 Donald was employed with Nichols Department Store then later with Pharmhouse. He was a member of Holy Family Church. Donald always enjoyed watching movies taking drives and most importantly spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald is survived by his three children, Dawn Beighley and husband Joel, Appleton, WI, June Cooney and husband Robert, Utica and Clay Poirier and wife June, Little Falls, 7grandchildren, Mary Rose Burdick and fiancée, Todd Wilson, Megan Farda, Vanessa Stevens and husband Joshua, Robert Cooney and fiancée Trista Waszkiewicz, Sean Cooney, James Warney and wife Maria, and Joshua Warney and wife Ana, 9 great grandchildren, Steven Burdick, Avery Wilson, Brian Johnson, Sophia Farda, Ava Bella Stevens, Cooper Stevens, McKenzie Cooney, Austin Warney and Aydin Warney, a sister, Beverly Anderson, Marcy and a brother, Norman Poirier and wife, Vicki, Whitesboro and many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by a brother, Richard Poirier. Mr. Poirier's funeral with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 11:00 from St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 2-4 & 7-9. Those so wishing may make donations to Hospice and palliative Care in Donald's memory. Special thanks to Donald's caregivers and all the wonderful people at Veterans Home Based Primary Care Unit and Hospice for all the loving care given to him.
