Mr. Jesse F. Nicotera, UPD, retired, 82, of Sarasota, Fl., formerly of Utica, passed away on Friday August 2, 2013 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Jesse was born in Utica on November 17, 1930, the son of John and Angeline (Fariola) Nicotera and received his education in Utica schools. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. For 25 years, Jesse was employed with the Utica Police Department where he was a proud member of the Mounted Police Division, retiring in 1984. He was a member of American Legion Utica Post 229, American Legion Whitestown Post 1113 and a past member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed horses, hunting, plaster crafts and was of the Catholic faith. At one time, Jessie was married to Theresa Mazza Nicotera and the couple have four children who sadly mourn the loss of their father; Tamara Smith of Michigan, Steven and Cynthia Nicotera of Myrtle Beach, SC Melissa Marsh of N. Utica and Daniel Nicotera of Fairbanks, Alaska; eight cherished grandchildren, Tierney, Jessica, Steven, Thomas, Brittany, Bryce, Brock and Brennan as well as seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Theresa Niti, Angeline Buccini, Mary Testa, Carmella Yozzo and Antoinette Androtti and four brothers, John, Casper, Thomas and James Nicotera. Mr. Nicotera's funeral will be held on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel-Blessed Sacrament Parish in Utica where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica.
