Anthony (Tony) J. Jardieu, Jr., 85, of North Utica passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Tony was born in Utica on January 10, 1928, a son of the late Anthony J. and Ida Belle (Whitford) Jardieu, Sr. Tony proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On June 30, 1956 he was united in marriage to Lucille Papelino a blessed union of 57 years. For many years until his retirement Tony was employed with the General Electric Co. Tony is survived by his beloved wife Lucille, his four children, Anthony Jardieu, III, Mansfield, TX, Laurie Engell and husband, John, Trenton Falls, NY, Elaine McSweeney and husband, Michael, Utica and Stephen Jardieu, Utica, eight grandchildren, Jason Edwards, Brooke Edwards, Stephen Jardieu, Jr., Christopher Jardieu, Lauren Jardieu, Cory Jardieu, Becky Engell and John Engell, Jr., and a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carol Jardieu, Whitesboro. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins and his canine companion, Lola. Tony was predeceased by a sister, Joycelyn Jardieu. Tony was a loving husband and a great father to his children. He was affectionately known as Papa to his grandchildren. Everyone he met was his friend and he will be missed. A funeral service for Mr. Jardieu will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 5-7.
