Obituary of Francis Raymond Doughty

Mr. Francis Raymond Doughty, Jr., 90, of Deansboro, NY, passed away Saturday June 1, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica with his loving family by his side. Francis was born in Middletown, NY on August 13, 1922, the son of Francis Raymond and Caroline (Hobart) Doughty, Sr. He was raised and educated in Liberty where he graduated from Liberty High School. Francis honorably served his country in The US Army during WW II and the Korean War. On November 9, 1946, Francis was united in Marriage with Jane M. Manion at St. Peter's Church in Liberty, NY. For 37 years, he was employed with New York Telephone Company retiring as a Telephone Engineer in 1982. Francis was a member and past Chief of the Barton Hose Company (Deansboro Fire Department), an active member of the telephone Pioneers, past board member of the NY State Telephone Employees Federal Credit Union, actively volunteered his time as an installer for Lifeline, was a member of the VFW in Oneonta, NY, American Legion post 232 in Clinton and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed golf, trout fishing and had a real passion for gardening. Mr. Doughty is survived by his beloved wife Jane; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ellen D. McKee of Cupertino, CA, Jane Frances Doughty of Deansboro, NY, Florence D. and Timothy Proulx of Swartz Creek, MI and Christiana D. and David Rothwell of Poland, NY; three sons and one daughter-in-law, James Christopher Doughty and Patricia J. Furner of Waterville, NY, Thomas M. Doughty and Gloria Byrne of Deansboro, NY and Joseph V. and Andrea Doughty of Chapel Hill, NC; a son-in-law, Brian Gadbois of Geneseo, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Beverly Doughty of Greene, NY as well as 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Claire L. Gadbois, a son, Frederic R. Doughty and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and George Dias. Mr. Doughty's funeral will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 13 Marvin St., Clinton. Rite of Committal and burial will be held Thursday in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 10 E. Park Row, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually impaired or the Deansboro Library and Reading Center in Francis' memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
