Gail L. Murphy, 66, of North Utica, passed away at her home with her family by her side on Friday, May 24, 2013 after a brief illness. Gail was born in Utica on December 13, 1946, the daughter of John and Louise (Chanel) Rudka. She was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales Elementary School, of Whitesboro High School, and of the Utica School of Commerce. On April 26, 1969, Gail married Frederick J. Murphy in St. Peter's Church in North Utica and shared a union of 42 years until his passing in 2011. Gail held several different jobs during her life. After school, she went to work for Bendix Corps. She later worked for her "family business" running the Oasis Hotel. Gail then was employed with the Utica School District in the Central Kitchen. Finally, she became the supervisor at Howard Johnsons until her retirement. Gail was a big fan of playing Bingo, attending Greystone and the Knights of Columbus with her husband. She also enjoyed attending the Moose Lodge activities and functions with Fred as well. With Gail, family always came first. She enjoyed her time with them above all else. Gail is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn C. and Chrystal Murphy, Deerfield, Christopher J. and Amy Murphy, North Utica; five cherished grandchildren, Connor and Brittany Murphy, Deerfield and Christopher, Jr., Cody, and Chloe Murphy, North Utica. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Dawne and Vincent LaPaglia, Colorado; a brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Claire Rudka, Deerfield. Mrs. Murphy's funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica.
