Michael X. Poirier, 80, of Clinton, formerly of Deansboro and of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center in New Hartford. Michael was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on April 23, 1933, the son of Henry and Edith (Bergeron) Poirier. He was raised and educated in Cornwall and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) in 1955. Michael went on to serve his country in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve. In 1969, he and his family moved to the United States where he became Head Brewmaster with Utica Club Brewery, where he was employed until 1985. He then took on several entrepreneurial endeavors. Michael was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton and of Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232, Franklin Springs. He was an avid farmer and gardener, who enjoyed being outside growing his vegetables on his land in Deansboro. Michael is survived by ten children, Elaine Michelle Smart, Guelph, ON, Anna Marie Berg, Goderich, ON, Kathleen Margaret Poirier, Goderich, ON, Valerie Suzanne Roe, Sarnia, ON, Glen Michael Poirier, Timmins, ON, Diane Margaret Poirier, Belmont, MA, Susan Leigh Holland, Ulster Park, NY, Steven James Poirier, Turtlepoint, PA, Karen Elaine Cecile, Waterloo, ON, Catherine Laura Lawton, Chepachet, RI; as well as by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Melvina and Rheal LaBelle, Cornwall, ON; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Stephen Poirier, Cornwall, ON, Emile and June Poirier, Cornwall, ON; as well as by several more brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Michael is predeceased by two sisters, Eva Amell and Madeline Boismenu; and three brothers, Albert, Leonel, and Roderick Poirier. Mr. Poirier's funeral will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Sunday evening, from 4 - 7 pm. The Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232 will conduct their service at 6:45 pm. Those wishing many donate to your local Parkinson's Foundation or to St. Mary's Church in Michael's memory.
