Richard A. Hoffman, 67, of North Utica passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Richard was born and raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On June 14, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church, New Hartford, Richard was united in marriage to Gloria Croff. In 1964 he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1970 serving again from 1976 to 1985. After this Richard was employed with the U.S. Post Office for many years, then until his retirement he worked as a Security Guard at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Richard thoroughly enjoyed his retirement being a "full-time grandpa" to his grandchildren, whom he lovingly cherished. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria, a son, Christopher Hoffman, Utica, a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jason Tuttle, Deerfield, 3 grandchildren, Kyle Hoffman, Eliza Tuttle and Sophie Tuttle, 2 brothers-in-law, Alexander Croff, VT and George Croff and Mary Thisse, Waddington, NY, an aunt, Julia Hoffman, NH, nieces, Casie and Corrie Croff, Tonawanda, NY, Julie O'Brien, Sackets Harbor, NY, and Vicki Sweet (Doug), VA, special cousins, Ruth and Jerry LaManque, Whitesboro, Marilyn Neary, Utica, William Hoffman, Utica, Rosemary Pisanescki, Deansboro, Sue Topi, Deansboro, Mona Zabinski, Utica. In keeping with Richard's wishes there are no calling hours. A private burial service will take place in the spring in Vermont. Those so wishing may make donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Shriners Children's Hospital in Richard's memory.
