George C. LaFleur, Sr., 88, of Rochester, formerly of Utica, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home in Rochester, with family at his side. George was born in Utica on December 12, 1924, the son of Delano and Alethea (Steates) LaFleur. He was raised and educated locally. George proudly served his country with the US Army as a combat medic during the European Theatre of World War II, receiving many medals and commendations. On November 24, 1949, George married Barbara Conte in St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica, sharing a union of 61 years, until her passing in 2010. He had been employed with Associated Transport and later with Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, George was a man of deep faith, who held true to the belief of God, Family, and Country. He was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church, of the Nocturnal Adoration Society in both Utica and Rochester. He was a member of the Fort Schuyler American Legion Post 1290, and later with the Irondequoit American Legion Post 134. George is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Sullivan, Rochester, Alicia and Benjamin Memmott, Rochester; a son and daughter-in-law, George C., Jr. and Donna LaFleur, North Carolina; a son-in-law, David Jablonski, Utica; ten grandchildren, Matthew (& Jennifer) Sullivan, Peter Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan, Valeria Jablonski, Jennifer Jablonski, Stephen LaFleur, Danielle LaFleur, Zachary Memmott, Alyssa Memmott, and Leah Memmott; four great grandchildren, Emily Sullivan, Andrew Sullivan, Brady Sullivan, and Tyler Jablonski; a sister, Joann Cloutier, MA; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Jablonski in 2012. Mr. LaFleur's funeral will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, Monday morning, from 10 - 12 o'clock, prior to the funeral.
