Robert Dewey LaValley, 84, of North Utica, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford. Bob was born in Massena, NY on September 15, 1928, the son of Dewey J. and Agnes L. (Patterson) LaValley. He attended Norfolk County School, a one-room schoolhouse, before going on to graduate from Madrid High School in 1947. Upon graduating, Bob joined the US Navy, serving his country aboard the US Manchester in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as in France and Italy. On July 8, 1950, Bob married Pauline Irene Bordeau at the Church of the Nativity in Cornwall, Ontario. He then went on to earn his degree in electrical engineering from what is now MVCC. Bob was employed with General Electric in Syracuse and later in Utica in the light military dept. He was an independent contractor to such companies as GE, IBM, Kodak and more in 15 states throughout his career. Bob proudly served as Utica's 6th Ward City Councilman from 1998 - 99 and provided flowers for Auert Park at no cost to the city for many years. He was also well known by North Utica youth for running a Disney movie program every Sunday afternoon for 7 years. Bob was a very active member of St. Peter's Church in North Utica, serving as an usher for over 50 years. Bob is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Greg Janicke, New Hartford; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Brian LaValley (and Kathleen Masterson), Cape Cod, MA, Robert B. and Cheryl LaValley, Marcy, Mark and Connie LaValley, Cooperstown; 7 grandchildren, Michael (and Jessica) LaValley, Laura LaValley, Robin (and Mark) Irizarry, Renee LaValley (and Dave Mattoni), Dr. Rebecca (and Eric) LaValley, Devin LaValley, and Mackenzie LaValley; 4 great grandchildren, Gabriella, Gehrig, Isabella, and Grayson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Bob Chase, NC, and Rita and Andrew Fiacco, Manlius. Bob is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Pauline, in 2011, a brother, Leslie LaValley, and two sisters, Joyce LaValley and Jeris Robbins. Mr. LaValley's funeral will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, in St. Peter's Cemetery, will take place in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, Wednesday evening, from 5 - 7 pm.
