Obituary of Erma Wittenbeck Schrader

Mrs. Erma Beatrice Schrader, 93, a resident of the St. Luke's Home, New Hartford, formerly of Yorkville, passed away on Friday January 4, 2013 at the nursing home. Erma was born in St. Johnsville, NY on December 17, 1919 the daughter of Francis and Daisy Bell (Ruller) Wittenbeck and received her education in Utica Schools. On October 26, 1946, Erma married Herbert A. Schrader at Sacred Heart Church in Utica. At one time, She was employed with Roberts Hardware in Utica and In her later years, as a bookkeeper at Jeffrey Hardware in Utica. She loved to read and sharpened her mind through crossword puzzles and games. Erma was an avid collector of coins and political campaign buttons. She assisted her husband in the research of the family tree throughout the Mohawk Valley. Her warmth and generosity of spirit will be remembered. Mrs. Schrader recently lost her husband of 66 years, Herbert A. Schrader, on December 23, 2012. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and LuAnn Schrader of Gouverneur, NY and William and Cherie Schrader of Sterling, VA; son-in-law, Robert Patterson of Buffalo, NY; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Everett (Ed) and Virginia Schrader of New Hartford and Charlotte Schrader of Utica as well as seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Barbara in 1950; a daughter, Bette Patterson in 2007, a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and George Dummit and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Kay Wittenbeck and Lee and Eva Wittenbeck. Mrs. Schrader's funeral will be held on Monday January 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Erma's memory, please consider the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., Utica NY 13501 or the Disabled American Veterans, Star and Stripes, No 82, 301 Bleecker St., Utica NY 13501.
