MaryRose Holtslag, 82, of N. Utica passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. MaryRose was born in Rensselaer, NY on July 16, 1930 a daughter of William W. and Agnes (Dunvar) Gillespie. She received her education locally and was a graduate of the St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. On August 30, 1952 MaryRose married Les Miller. He passed away on December 19, 1960. At St. Peter's Church, N. Utica on July 21, 1962 MaryRose married Joseph E. Holtslag. For many years she was employed with St. Elizabeth's Hospital then later until her retirement the Visiting Nurses Association. MaryRose was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica, a member of the St. Elizabeth's Alumni Association, and volunteered at the Stanley Theatre. She enjoyed playing bridge and in her earlier years bowling. MaryRose is survived by her husband, Joseph, her five children, Joseph and Sandy Holtslag, NC, Jim and Gail Holtslag, TN, Tim Holtslag, CA, Jean LaPlant, Whitesboro and Bill and Cathy Holtslag, Whitesboro. MaryRose is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and the Amacher and Springer families. MaryRose was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Ray Kiefl. Mrs. Holtslag's funeral will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. from St. Peter's Church, N. Utica where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
