Obituary of Francis B. O'Brien

Francis ("O'B") O'Brien, 89, passed away December 25, 2012 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. O'B, as everyone knew him was born January 20, 1923 to Frank and Mary Flynn O'Brien in Clinton, NY. He lived his entire life in Clinton and was proud to be a true "Clintonian". He graduated from Clinton High School Class of 1941. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, with the U. S. Army/Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1946. O'B was employed by NY Telephone Co. from 1946 until he retired in 1985. On February 14, 1953, he married Betty MacGregor, also of Clinton. He was a member of the American Legion, CWA, Telephone Pioneers, Clinton Fire Dept. and St. Mary's Church. He was also a member of the Clinton Historical Society. O'B enjoyed golfing in his retirement years and was a 34 year member of the Skenandoa Club. He was also an avid fan of the NY Giants, NY Mets and SU Basketball. He and Betty were snowbirds, spending 15 years wintering in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Betty, a loving marriage for almost 60 years, three daughters, Patricia (Mike) Johnson, Liverpool, Lynne Sanchez (Jim Bloomingdale), Delmar, Carol (Paul) Willsea, Naples, a son Timothy (Pamela) O'Brien, Portland, OR, grandchildren, Sean and Erin Johnson, Steven and Jessica Sanchez, Claire and Flynn Willsea, and two great granddaughters, Karissa and Natalie. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Burrows, Lake Bonaparte, and Marjorie (Francis) Kervin, Clinton, in-laws, Glen and Joyce MacGregor, Clinton and Shirley Pipitone, Nicaragua and many nieces and nephews. O'B was predeceased by his brother Jack and grandson Ronan Willsea. Mr. O'Brien's funeral will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton will be Friday (today) from 3 to 7. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Clinton Fire Dept. or the Kirkland Town Library. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr.'s Kandiah, Eldridge, Regulagadda and MacIssac.
