Patricia E. "Pat" Cotignola, 79, of Florida and Inlet, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Pat was born in Jamaica, NY on May 16, 1933, the daughter of Gerard and Frances (Walmar) Gaffney. She was raised and educated in Long Island and attended Hofstra College. On June 22, 1957, Pat married Lewis F.X. Cotignola in Floral Park, NY. Lewis was the only one who affectionately called her "Liz", to everyone else, she was "Pat". Pat had worked for the cosmetics company "Yardley's of London" in New York City. She had been Miss Nassau County 1955 and National Sweetheart for Sigma Alpha Sigma. Pat had also been a clothing model, retiring from both to marry and raise her family. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother. Pat was an active member of St. Thomas More Traditional Roman Catholic Chapel in Utica. Pat is survived by her loving husband, Lewis F.X. Cotignola, Florida and Inlet, NY; two daughters and sons-in-law, Caren and Robert VanderMaas, East Northport, Long Island, Jean and Stephen Bussone, Chadds Ford, PA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lewis F.X. III and Patricia J. Cotignola, Prospect, NY, Christopher Cotignola, Nyack, NY; two grandchildren, Lauren VanderMaas and Joseph VanderMaas, both of East Northport, Long Island. She is predeceased by a brother, James Gaffney, and a sister, Joan Boicourt. Mrs. Cotignola's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Traditional Roman Catholic Chapel, 738 Roberts St., corner of Sunset Ave., Utica. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., on Sunday from 4 - 7 pm.
