Mrs. Catherine C. Grimmer, 84, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at her home, with her loving family by her side. Catherine was born in Utica on August 1, 1928, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Kenefick) Collea and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On September 30, 1950, Catherine married William (Bill) G. Grimmer at Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica, a devoted union of 59 years until Bill's death in 2009. At one time, Catherine was employed with Oneida County and later with New Hartford Central School retiring in 1987. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, winters in Englewood FL and embroidery. She was a devout parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford and the Newman Center of Utica College. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Catherine devoted her life to the care of her family. Her most enjoyable times were those spent with her beloved children and cherished grandchildren. Mrs. Grimmer is survived by her six children and their spouses; William Jr. and Karen Grimmer of Bath, NY, Bob and Sandi Grimmer of Pinellas Park, FL, Kathy and Tom Horn of New Hartford, Tom and Kim Grimmer of Utica, Terry and Steve Krumbach of New Hartford and Joe Grimmer of New Hartford; fifteen grandchildren, Mary Lisa, Anne Marie, Elizabeth, Patrick and Madeleine Grimmer, Robert Grimmer, Michael Grimmer and his wife Crystal, Colleen, Frank, and Elizabeth Carcone, Chrissy Harper and her husband Eddie, and Andrew, Christine, Kathleen and Nicole Krumbach; three great grandchildren, Brendan and Logan Grimmer and Anne Catherine Harper; one sister, Eileen Philo of Remsen; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Ruth Collea of Ilion, Jerome and Joyce Collea of Utica and Robert and Jeanne Collea of Frankfort; a special cousin, Anthony Scalzo and his wife Teresa of New Hartford; a devoted niece, Katy King of NY Mills; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Miner of Whitesboro, Maryanne Collea of Utica, James and Maureen Grimmer of Forestport and Janet Grimmer of Whitesboro; a dear friend, Jennifer Casale and close family friend, Frank Carcone. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Marie Grimmer, granddaughter, Stephanie Krumbach, three sisters, Margaret Julian, Ethel Gaetano and Victoria Devins and four brothers, Charles Collea, Jr., Frank Collea, John Collea and James Collea. Mrs. Grimmer's funeral will be held on Monday September 17, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at St. John The Evangelist Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. In keeping with Catherine's wishes, there are no calling hours.
