Bea was born in New Hartford on October 23, 1918, the daughter of John and Mabel (Evans) Gates. She was raised and educated in New Harford and Utica, graduating from Utica Free Academy in 1936. In 1939, Beatrice married John Barth, a union of 46 years, until his passing in 1985. In 1991, Bea married her daughter's godfather, George White. Mr. White passed away in 1995.
