Howard J. Sherman, 84, of Frankfort passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 16, 2012. Howard was born in Utica on September 19, 1927 a son of Harold and Theresa (Guggies) Sherman. In 1946 Howard joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for 21 years retiring as a Staff Sergeant. On January 13, 1962 Howard married Josephine LaComb. Josephine passed away in 1987. On December 24, 1991 he married Ingrid Stettner. Ingrid passed away in 2002. He was a member of the Deerfield Rod and Gun Club, National Rifle Assoc., Handyman Club of America, and life member of the North American Fishing Club and North American Hunting Club. Howard was a former member of the Clayville Volunteer Fire Department. Howard is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond and Nicole Sherman of Holland Patent and Leo LaComb of Utica, a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Robert Colvin of Edinburg, NY, step children, Betty Ryan and Jami Goldych of Taberg, NY and James Ryan of Madison, NY. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several cousins. Howard is predeceased by a brother, Harold and a sister, Theresa. A funeral service for Mr. Sherman will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday from 1-3. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clayville. Those so wishing may make donations to the Meals on Wheels of Herkimer County, the Clayville or Stittville or your local Volunteer Fire Department in Howards memory.
