Mr. Michael J. DiNitto, 60, of Ilion, passed away on Wednesday July 18, 2012 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown with his loving family by his side. Michael was born in Utica on October 15, 1951 the son of Samuel, Sr. and Clovis DiNitto. Michael was raised and educated in Utica and Whitesboro, was graduate of Whitesboro High School and earned an associate's degree from Herkimer County Community College. He attended Morrisville College and later earned his bachelor's degree from New Paltz College. On October 15, 1977, Michael married Dawn M. Goppert at St. Anthony's Church in Utica. For 37 years, Michael was employed as Director of Vocational Services with the ARC Oneida-Lewis Chapter NYSARC, in Utica. He was a member of the ARC Oneida-Lewis Chapter NYSARC, was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking and had an impressive knife collection. He was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. DiNitto is survived by his beloved wife, Dawn; three cherished children, Michael C. DiNitto and his wife Imane, Allisyn M. DiNitto and Nicklas Z.J. DiNitto all of Ilion; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Samuel A., Sr. and Diann M. DiNitto of Westmoreland, Louis V. and Betsy J. DiNitto of OR, John S. DiNitto of Oneida and Albert J. and Debbie A. DiNitto of Sauquoit; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leatrice J. and David Doolen of NE, Joseph J. Goppert III of Utica, Edward C. Goppert of Utica, Allen P. Goppert of Utica, James M. Goppert of Utica, Alice P. Zayas of Utica, Tabbitha S.M. and Paul Smith of MD, Anna Goppert of Ilion and Tracey Goppert of Utica as well as many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his canine companions, Benito, Zira and Puppup. Mr. DiNitto's funeral will be held on Monday July 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ARC Oneida-Lewis Chapter, 245 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13501 in Michael's memory.
