Shirley June Knapp 90, of New York Mills passed away May 12, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Shirley was born in Utica on July 20, 1921 a daughter of Roy I. and Florence (Rayce) Meyers. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a 1939 graduate of Proctor High School. In Utica on February 8, 1941 Shirley was united in marriage to F. Millard Knapp a blessed union of 47 years until his death in 1986. For many years Shirley and her husband Millard ran the Iron Kettle Auction House in Schuyler. She was a member of the West Schuyler United Methodist Church in Schuyler. Shirley volunteered at the Eden Park Nursing Home for over 30 years and was the recipient of New York State Health Facility Association Adult Volunteer of the Year in 1985 and the Senior Adult Volunteer of the Year in 1995. Shirley was a loving housewife and mother, nurturing her children and providing guidance thru the years. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family. Shirley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Douglas Roberts, FL, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Susan Knapp, Whitesboro, a daughter-in-law, Catherine Knapp, Schuyler, a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Patricia Meyers, FL, a sister-in-law, Ada J. Meyers, Utica, a special relative, Eleanor Neidhart, WA, 12 grandchildren and spouses, Steven and Sondra Roberts, Kevin and Lisa Roberts, Brian and Cindy Roberts, Kristine Roberts, Kathleen and Daren Singleton, Amelia and Aaron Jacobs, Marcella and Alejandro Lilley-Knapp, Michael and Trista Knapp, Thomas and Nadine Knapp, Justin Knapp, Amanda Knapp, and Joseph Knapp. She is also survived by 18 cherished great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, several nieces, nephews and many loving friends. Shirley was predeceased by her two sons, Richard M. Knapp in 1956 and Michael W. Knapp in 2011, and a brother, Roy I. Meyers. A funeral service for Mrs. Knapp will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:30 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with the Pastor Cindy Makarchuk officiating. Burial will take place in the West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours for Mrs. Knapp will be held on Wednesday from 5-8. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Children's Ministry of the West Schuyler United Methodist Church or St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff on 3A of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for all the loving care given to Shirley.
