Valentine A. Alsante, 61, of Utica passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Valentine was born in Utica on June 11, 1950 a son of the late Joseph and Gladys (Zaentec) Alsante. He was a graduate of MVCC and SUNYIT. In Utica on June 10, 1988 Valentine married Kathleen Kain. For many years until his retirement he was employed with Rome DFAS. Val was an avid sports enthusiast, most notably a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Fishing was another one of Val's passions especially when he could spend time at his favorite fishing spot on the St. Lawrence River. Val is survived by his wife, Kathleen, a sister, Sandy Infusino, Utica, a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Sandra Alsante, Utica, two special nieces, Michele Infusino, Yorkville and Renee Alsante, Rome, in-laws, Kevin and Peggy Kain, Oswego, NY, Peggy Kain, Utica and Michael and Debbie Kain, Sauquoit, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Val will also be greatly missed by his canine companion, Dugan. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Joseph, Ronald, Virgil, Richard and Eugene Alsante. A Memorial Service for Mr. Alsante will be held on Friday evening, April 6th at 6:30 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Memorial calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Friday from 4:00 until the service. Those so wishing may make donations to their favorite charity in Valentine's name. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Critical Care Unit of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, especially Barb, Gina, Mark and John for all the loving care given to Val.
