Obituary of Peter A. Zizzi

Peter A. Zizzi, 83, of Utica, passed away March 22, 2012 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with his loving family at his side. Peter was born in Syracuse, NY, on February 4, 1929 the son of Frank and Dora (Pape) Zizzi. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Proctor High School. Pete proudly served his country in the US Army during WW II. In July of 1952, he was united in marriage to Rose Patera. Rose passed away in 1991. With his wife, for a number of years, Peter owned and operated the Black Angus Restaurant in Kirkland. He later opened and retired from the G+D Restaurant in Utica. He was a former member of St. Anthony's of Padua Church in Utica. Pete will be always be remembered for his endless strength throughout his valiant battle against cancer. He will also be remembered for his ability to make people laugh with his dry humor. he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, discussing History, and reading books from his personal library. Pete particularly loved drinking his brandy and smoking cigars "with the guys" up at Pine Lake. He will be loved and missed everyday by his cherished family. Peter is survived by his children, two daughters and sons in law: Linda and Fred Brown of Utica, Karen and Sal Granato of Whitesboro, and one son, Frank Zizzi of Oriskany. He leaves six grandchildren, Tim, Dan, Kelley, Brandi, Madison, and Ty, and his great granddaughter Mackenzie. Also surviving are a sister and brother, Rosemary and her husband Pat Salerno of Ft. Edwards, NY and Joe Zizzi of Buffalo. Also, he's mourned by a former daughter in law, Melissa Zizzi and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pete was predeceased by several aunts and uncles. Relatives and Peter's close friends are invited to a service at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 26,2012 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with his burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Mr. Zizzi's children would like to extend their gratitude to the CC unit and 6th floor staff at St. Luke's Healthcare, for taking exceptional care of our father. Also, to the Senior Network for their care and compassion given our father, while he was still at home. Donations in Pete's memory for those so wishing, would be appreciated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice and Palliative Care in New Hartford.
