Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret V. Durr, 88, of Schuyler passed away on Thursday May 4, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born in Syracuse on July 27, 1928, a daughter of the late Matthew and Elizabeth (Algier) Vollmer. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse. Margaret married Edmund J. Durr at Holy Trinity Church in Syracuse on October 27, 1951, a blessed union of 25 years until his death on October 3, 1976. For many years until her retirement in 1986, she was employed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital as nurse manager in the Newborn Nursery. She was a founding member of St. Mark’s Church, North Utica and its Altar Rosary Society, a founding member of the Marian Club at Notre Dame High School, a member of the New York State Nurses Association, and member of the former Mother’s Guild at St. Peter’s School. Margaret was devoted to her Catholic faith and her family. A true matriarch, she was a source of constant love, grace and strength. She cherished time spent with her family at “the farm”, cheering on Notre Dame High School and Iowa State Basketball, and keeping close tabs on relatives near and far. Hours spent baking sugar cookies, saying rosaries and picking strawberries with Gram are memories her family will always hold dear. Orchestrating holiday celebrations and the annual Durr, Riley, Ryan family reunion was a job only Gram could handle, and piñatas, Easter egg hunts and potato sack races will always have a touch of Gram in them. The traditions she started have left a legacy that her family will be honored to continue. Margaret is survived by her eight children, Mary Stephens and husband, Gregg, of Green Bay, WI, Matthew Durr and wife, Melanie, of Utica, Mark Durr and wife, Gail, of Schuyler, Margaret Jarosz, of New York Mills, Michael Durr and wife, Mary Ellen, of North Gage, Monica Davis and husband, Dwight, of Durhamville, Agnes Duening and husband, Mark, of Manitowic, WI and Elizabeth Trinkaus and husband, Jason, of Marcy, her 25 beloved grandchildren, Sara (Andy) Dyer, Edmund (Betty) Stephens, Jon Stephens, Maura (James) Hoffman, Karri (Patrick) Roach, Rebecca (John) Simmons, Brenna Durr, Joseph (Brittany) Durr, Meghan Durr, Mary Lynn (Jon) Donohoe, Melissa (Michael) Babula, Daniel, Peter, Luke (Sarah), Katherine and Emily Durr, Dylan, Quinn and Riley Davis, Laura (Eric) Duening-Swanson, Claire Duening, Margaret, Ella, Erin and Molly Trinkaus and 14 adored great- grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Audrey Durr, of New Hartford, Margaret (Peg) Durr, of Utica, and Janet Durr, of New Hartford, and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Agnes and Ed Klee, Emma and James Baker, Cecelia Vollmer, and Rose and William Sherbeck; in-laws, Nicholas and Babette Durr, Francis and Teresa Durr, Joseph and Doris Durr, Robert and Dorothy Durr, Philip Durr, Thomas Durr, Raymond Durr and John Durr.
