Patricia Catherine (Hayes) Wood, 87, died peacefully at home on March 13, 2012, surrounded by her family. Pat was born on October 5, 1924, in Utica, to Frank and Irene Hayes. She attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School and graduated from St. Frances de Sales High School. She also graduated from the St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing. She was married to William C. Wood and they made their life-long home in Utica. She was predeceased by Bill on June 6, 2008. Pat worked in the maternity ward at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for many years and later she worked for many years as a visiting nurse for the VNA and Oneida County Visiting Nurses. Pat was a breast cancer survivor for many years and continued to live a happy life. Pat is survived by her children, William H. Wood (Cindy) of Sun City Center, FL, Richard J. Wood of Utica, Eileen M. Turner (David) of Carlsbad, CA and Thomas K. Wood of Utica. She is also survived by a sister, Sister Marilyn Hayes CSJ of Little Falls, NY, a sister-in-law, Maxine Wood of Gig Harbor, WA and by two grandchildren, Daniel Turner and Lindsay Turner of Carlsbad, CA. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. especially to primary nurse Kathy Smyth and Justin Dyer for their exceptional caring treatment. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten. Pat requested that there be no flowers. In lieu of flowers, she requests donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., in her name. As per Pat's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Her funeral will be on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 10:00 at St. Mark's Catholic Church , 440 Keyes Rd. in North Utica. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
