Obituary of Mary R. Asfur

Miss Mary R. Asfur, 90, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, New Hartford, formerly of Matthews Ave., Utica, passed away Tuesday February 7, 2012 at the nursing home. Mary was born in Utica on July 12, 1921 the daughter of Samuel J. and Ameena (Baker) Asfur and received her education in Utica schools. For over 50 years, Mary was employed as office manager with F.W. Woolworth's department store. After her retirement from Woolworth's, Mary missed her daily routine and mingling with people and took a job at Rite Aid drug store. Mary enjoyed and loved her family very much. She always looked forward to family gatherings and showed great affection for her nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews. She was a devoted parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. Miss Asfur is survived by her sister, Helen Asfur; nephews and nieces, Frank and Kathy Centro of Oneida, Betty (Centro) and Roger Sabia of Rome, Lena Centro of Rome, Samuel and Cheryl Robilotta of Utica, Joseph and Phyllis Robilotta of Long Island, Paul and Gina Asfur of Marcy, Sam and Lynn Asfur of FL, Anthony and Kimberly Asfur of FL, David Asfur of FL and Sue Asfur of Sherrill. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Asfur, Ann Robilotta and Sarah Centro; one brother, Anthony Asfur, Sr. and a niece, Helen Centro Pardi. Miss Asfur's funeral will be held on Friday February 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 9:00-10:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. At the family's request, please omit floral offerings and kindly consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Mary's memory. The family is grateful for the loving care and compassion that was given to Mary by the staff of the Presbyterian Home.
