Donald S. McHarris, 77, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the HPCI Siegenthaler Center in Clinton. Don was born October 8, 1934, in Utica, the son of Michael and Helen (Moshaty) McHarris, and the twin brother of Ronald McHarris. He was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from St. Francis de Sales High School and later received his Bachelor's Degree from Niagara University. On May 30, 1959, Don married Patricia Ann Loftus. In 1961, he joined the US Army, and later served with the US Army Reserves. For many years, Don was the owner and operator of the K & P Foodmart in Verona Beach. He was later employed with Sisco Food Service in Syracuse, advancing to Marketing Specialist, before retiring in 2000. Don was a very active member of the Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post # 232, where he served as the post's Historian for many years. He was also a member of St. Thomas' Men's Club, and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia McHarris, Clinton; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ron Saunders, Clinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cindy McHarris, Sauquoit, Donald, Jr. and Patricia McHarris, Clinton; seven cherished grandchildren, Matthew Saunders, Daniel Saunders, Christa Saunders, Danielle McHarris, Patrick McHarris, Matthew McHarris, and Jake McHarris; his twin brother, Ronald McHarris, Sylvan Beach; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his sheepdog, Mocha. He is predeceased by a brother, Basil McHarris. Mr. McHarris' funeral will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Clinton where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive guests following the Mass. A private interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Those wishing may donate to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., in Don's memory.
