Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane E. Whittles, 88, a resident of The Lutheran Homes in Clinton, formerly of New York Mills, passed away on December 21, 2011. Jane was born on September 23, 1923, the daughter of Oliver J. and Antoinette (Palardy) Ouimette. Antoinette passed away in 1929. In 1931, Oliver married a very special lady, whom Jane thought of as her second mother, Nilah Hawley. Nilah passed away in 2003. Jane graduated from New York Mills High School, Class of 1940, and has been active in alumni work since the class celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1990. Being reunited with dear classmates at the annual reunion was the highlight of the year. Jane was united in marriage with the love of her life, Ross W. Whittles, on April 24, 1942. They were married nearly 56 years when Ross passed away on February 25, 1998. Jane lived a beautiful life, blessed with the love of family and friends. She and Ross shared a love of animals, traveling and just being together. When Ross died, he left a lifetime of memories that would sustain her until her passing. Their only child, Pamela J., was so very special and dear. She and Jane were very best friends. Jane leaves her daughter, Pamela J. Whittles and her partner, Nathalie Lussier; her dear brother and his wife, Donald J. and Darlene Ouimette; sister-in-law, Marilyn DelSignore; a special nephew, David W. Ouimette, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, including her very dear friend, Ruth Ames. Besides her parents and second mother, she was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Richard Ouimette and another dear friend, Harriette Tilley. Respecting her wishes, Mrs. Whittles' funeral services are being held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society or to the New York Mills, Class of 1940, Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Jane's family would like to thank her doctors, Dr. Amy Gorzynski and Dr. Mark Blaker, the nurses and staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center and the staff of the Katherine Luther Home, especially the Gordon Unit for their kind and compassionate care. "Hi, Honey - It's great to be with you again!"
