John W. Munn, 89, of Whitesboro passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford. John was born on January 3, 1922 in Lindale, TX a son of Dewey and Julia (Sorrells) Munn. He proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1941 to 1945 and again from 1950 to 1951. In Utica on November 18, 1945, John was united in marriage to Jeannette L. Baran, a blessed union of 63 years until her death on December 13, 2008. For many years until his retirement in 1977, John was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford, a founding member of St. Anne's Church Whitesboro, member of St. Anne's Senior Guild and a member of American Legion Post #1113 Whitesboro. John also did volunteer work at the Presbyterian Home for many years. John is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Stappenbeck, Whitesboro, two cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Kara and Craig Smith, NC and Jason and Lynsay Stappenbeck, NC, five adored great grandchildren, Landon and Grant Smith and Jonathan, Logan and Skylar Stappenbeck, and two sisters-in-law, Sophie Jedrek, CA and Carolyn Baron, Yorkville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert and Alvis Munn. Mr. Munn's funeral with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday morning 8:30 to 10:15. Those so wishing may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association in John's memory. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to John's caregivers, Lynn, Kim, Missy, Lorraine, Petie, Beth and Gloria, and the physicians and staff of the Cedar Wing of the Presbyterian Home. Your compassion and tender care of "Texas" John will never be forgotten.
