Obituary of Robert F. Cyr

Robert F. Cyr, 92, a resident of the Eastern Star Home, formerly of North Utica, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the home. Robert was born in Utica on March 1, 1919, the son of Isaias and Anna (Lubey) Cyr. He was raised and educated locally. Robert served his country with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. On August 24, 1946, Robert married Eleanor H. Stomierowski, sharing a union of over 60 years, until her passing in 2007. He was employed with Utica Mutual Insurance Company, and later with Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. Robert was a member of St. Peter's Church in North Utica; of the Elk's Club, New Hartford; of the New Hartford American Legion Post # 1376. He had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, golfing, and bowling. Robert enjoyed taping and listening to reels of oldies music. Robert and Eleanor especially enjoyed wintering in Seminole, FL where they would spend six months a year for over thirty years until their health wouldn't allow it anymore. Robert is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marilyn Cyr, Marcy, Kevin Cyr, Maui, Hawaii, and Debra (Mrs. Bryan) Cyr, Oregon; six grandchildren, Ron (and Lisa) Cyr, Whitesboro, Martin (and Athena) Cyr, Holland Patent, Samuel Cyr, Hawaii, Seth Cyr, Hawaii, Kristina Cyr, New York City, and Jessica (and Jordan) Kanealii, Hawaii; three great grandchildren, Danielle Cyr, Kau-i Lani Kanealii, and Jacob Cyr. Robert is predeceased by a son, Bryan Cyr, a brother, Raymond Cyr, and two infant sisters, June and Veronica Cyr. Mr. Cyr's funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society in Robert's memory. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Eastern Star Home, especially the Carey Unit, for the care and compassion shown to both Robert and his family during his stay.
