Mrs. Barbara Leonard, 83, of Deerfield, NY passed away on Tuesday October 4, 2011 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Barbara was born in Utica on August 25, 1928 a daughter of the late H. Palmer and Harriet (Guilliaume) Burton. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a 1945 graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. At St. Peter's Church N. Utica on August 14, 1948 Barbara was united in marriage to Robert Leonard. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica, a member of the Altar Rosary Society and Funeral Ministry of the church, an election inspector for the Town of Deerfield and a member of the Deerfield Democratic Club. Barbara is survived by her husband, Bob, her three children, Kathleen and Edward Blake, Deerfield, Timothy and June Leonard, New Hartford, and Susan and Thomas Alsante, Liverpool, NY, five grandchildren, Devin Blake, Deerfield, Cara Blake, Deerfield, Meghan Leonard, New Hartford, Peter Alsante, Brooklyn, NY and Sarah Alsante, Liverpool, NY, three brothers, Charles (Chick) Burton, Utica, Richard and Patricia Burton, Chesterfield, MO, and John and Debra Burton, Camden, NY, a sister-in-law, Jean Burton, Utica and a aunt, Mary Burton, New Hartford. Barbara was predeceased by a brother, James Harland Burton. Mrs. Leonard's funeral will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 from St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday (Today) from 5-8. The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Booth and the staff of Hospice Care especially Nadine, Kathy and Irene for all the loving care they gave to Barbara.
