Obituary of John Gaffney

John "Jack" F. Gaffney, 81, of N. Utica, died at home in the loving care of his devoted family on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Jack was born in Utica, NY on November 15, 1929, the son of James and Margaret (Schilz) Gaffney. He was raised and educated locally. On November 18, 1950, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, N. Utica, Jack was married to his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia Caswell, a blessed union of almost 61 years. Jack had been employed with C&C Collision until his retirement in 1991. He previously worked for Bentro & Brady. He was a member of the North Utica AA Football League, played on the Valley Merchants Softball team, and coached North Utica Youth Baseball. Jack surrounded his whole life with his family, as shown by his dear love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Patricia; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Evan Pearl of Deerfield, Carol and Mark Klausner of Clinton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Gaffney and his companion, Janice Clark, of Minoa, NY, James and Theresa Gaffney of Whitesboro. He also leaves cherished grandchildren; Cassandra Rood (Brian), Craig Pearl, Matt Klausner (Abby Drumm), Andrew Klausner (Meghan), Shawn and Alyssa Gaffney, Kevin and Allison Clark, Jessica Gaffney and James Gaffney; his two great grandchildren, Joshua and Megan Rood; two sisters, Peggy Orban of Oneida, Betty Jane Murtaugh of Holland Patent; one brother, James Gaffney of Utica; his in-laws; Charlene Gaffney of TX., H. Bradford and Doris Caswell, and Vivian Caswell; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Gaffney; and in laws, Steve Orban, William Murtaugh, Alyce Gaffney, Robert Caswell, and John and Jeanette Meyers. Mr. Gaffney's Funeral service will be held Tuesday evening (today), September 27, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, with the Rev. Mark Pasik officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 - 7 pm, prior to his service. His burial will take place in West Schuyler Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Jack's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care , New Hartford or to the charity of your choice.
