Betty Ann Canfield, 83, of Utica, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, after a brief illness. Betty was born on July 15, 1928 in Utica, the daughter of Fred E. and Lena (Bartholomew) Taylor. She was raised and educated locally and worked at Utica Mutual Insurance Company. On June 9, 1951, Betty married George L. Canfield, sharing a union of 52 years until his passing in 2003. After marrying George, she went to work for Canfield Radiator in Utica. Betty also was a volunteer at the Masonic Care Community for over 18 years. She was of the Catholic faith, raised attending St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church in Utica and also would attend Grace Episcopal Church with her husband. Betty is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George, Jr. and Sharon Canfield, Deerfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Dietz, Rochester, Deborah Coughlin, FL; five grandchildren, Kelly M. Downey, Christopher C. Dietz, Jocelyn L. Dietz, Ashleigh M. Canfield, Michael C. Canfield; as well as three great grandchildren, Emma Downey, Evan Downey, and Zachary Dietz. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, Margaret Schuyler, Dorothy Taylor, Katherine Hildenbrandt, Charles Taylor, and Fred Taylor. Mrs. Canfield's funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica, with Rev. Anthony LaFache presiding. Interment will follow in West Schuyler Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday evening, from 5 - 8 pm. Those wishing may donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Boys & Girls Town, the 32nd Degree Masonic Learning Center for Children, or the Ziyara Shriner's Children's fund in Betty's memory.
