Bernard F. Eaker, 90, of New Hartford and formerly of Chittenango passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Bernard was born in Utica on March 15, 1921 the son of Floyd and Flora E. (Foxenberger) Eaker. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. For many years until his retirement in 1986 Bernard was employed with the Sears & Roebuck Co. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed making people laugh, was sharp as a wit with the world news and old-time move/TV stars. Bernard is survived by his six nieces and nephews, Joan Helen Evans Wilson and husband Richard Wilson, Whitesboro, NY; Richard Rupert Gassner and wife Deborah Greer Gassner, Deerfield, NY; Gloria Gassner Whitton Vebber and husband Mark Vebber, Sauquoit, NY/Alabama; David Lawrence Gassner and wife Shirley Dunham Gassner, Newark, DE; Andrea Gassner Daley and husband William Ward Daley, Troy, NY; and Claudia Gassner Hartz and Garry McVoy, Clinton, NY. He is also survived by many grand and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, brothers-in-laws and one niece, Helen Margaret Eaker Evans and husband Milton Evans, Mary Frances Eaker Gassner and husband Rupert Gassner and Carol A. Evans Roberts and Ken Roberts, Remsen, NY. Mr. Eaker's calling hours will be held on Friday July 8, 2011, from 4-6 p.m., including a 6 p.m. service at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, NY. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Family Nurturing Center, 209 Elizabeth St., Utica, NY 13501.
