Irene C. Hammill, 80 of Barneveld, NY entered into eternal rest on April 8, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. Born Oct. 29, 1936 in Utica, NY she was the daughter of the late Stella Chwalek. Irene was united in marriage on May 21, 1955 to John A.Hammill and until his death in 2014, they enjoyed 59 years together. Irene and John were blessed with seven children. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Irene was a great cook who took pride in her polish heritage, creating fond memories while passing down family tradition. She was especially known for making pierogies for family and friends. Irene’s home was always open to those in need. She had a generous and welcoming spirit. Spending many summers vacationing and boating in the Thousand Islands with her family, she particularly enjoyed jet skiing and tubing until the young age of 72. She also enjoyed her many travels to various casinos with her husband. Irene is survived by three sons, John and Christina Hammill (Hinckley), Michael Hammill and Sherry Taylor (Barneveld), Joseph and Kelly Hammill (Marcy); four daughters, Deborah and Marco Indolfi (Floyd), Christine and Richard Furlong (Holland Patent), Cynthia and Paul Falk (Floyd), Cheryl and Gregg Sebastian (Barneveld); her grandchildren, Richard (Sara) Furlong, Christopher Indolfi, Danielle (Adam) Meyers, John (Danielle) Furlong, David (Valerie) Indolfi, Gregg (Michelle) Sebastian, Michelle (Nicholas) Allar, Michael (Sebrina) Sebastian, Brian (Jolene) Indolfi, Joshua Sebastian, Elise (Joel) Robenski, Alessandra Hammill, Matthew Hammill (Kaitlin), Stephen Falk, Jayde Hammill, Devin, Caryne, John, Jenicia, Essance, Alexis; great grandchildren, Gregg, Natalie, Emma, Amelia, Jacksen, Ethan, Henry, Ella, Genevieve, Saraiya, Hayley, Miles, Stella, Isabella and Alexander; brother-in-law, Anthony DeJoseph (Jamestown), and brother and sister-in law, George and Elaine Retschle (Utica). Irene is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends including a special "little friend and helper", Ali Drake. She leaves behind her best friend and canine companion, Willie. She was predeceased by her brother Arthur and sister-in-law, Marian Chwalek as well as many in-laws. Mrs. Hammill's funeral will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 9:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Leo's and St. Anne's Church, Holland Patent. Burial will take place in the Holland Patent Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Irene's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
