Frederick J. Murphy, 68, of North Utica passed away unexpectedly on Friday May 6, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Fred was born in Oneida, NY on October 19, 1942, a son of Charles and Jane (Navel) Murphy. He was a graduate of Vernon- Verona- Sherrill High School. Fred proudly served his country in the Army from 1963-1967. On April 26, 1969 at St. Peter's Church, North Utica he was united in marriage to Gail L. Rudka. For 28 years until his retirement in 1996, Fred was employed with the U.S. Post Office in New Hartford. He was a member of American Legion Post# 1376, New Hartford, and the VFW of Sherrill, NY. Fred loved doing crossword puzzles and was an avid bowler, golfer and Cleveland Browns fan. The most important thing in Fred's life was his family. He derived much enjoyment from the time he spent with them whether it was a party, picnic, school or sporting event; Fred would never miss one. Fred is survived by his wife , Gail, two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn C. and Chrystal L. Murphy, Deerfield and Christopher J. and Amy B. Murphy, N. Utica, 5 beloved grandchildren, Connor C. and Brittany N. Murphy, Deerfield and Christopher J., Jr., Cody B. and Chloe D. Murphy, Utica, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sandy Murphy, Vernon and Daniel Murphy, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service for Mr. Murphy will be held on Monday May 9, 2011 at 4:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 2-4. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Legion Post # 1376 in Fred's memory. American Legion Post #1376 will meet at the funeral home Monday at 4:00. The family would like to thank the Utica Fire Dept. and the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's ER for all the care given to Fred.
