Mrs. Joan Cox-Riemenschneider, 76, of Preswick Glen in New Hartford passed away on Monday April 11, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Joan was born March 2, 1935 in Albany, NY the daughter of Arthur and Jeanne (Murphy) Malakie. She was raised and educated in Albany and was a graduate of Cathedral Academy class of 1952. On January 26, 1957, Joan married John F. Cox, Sr. at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Albany, NY. Mr. Cox died December 20, 1991. On November 23, 1996, Joan married William W. Riemenschneider at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Mr. Riemenschneider died December 24, 2009. For many years, Joan was employed with the NY Telephone Company retiring in 1991. She was a past member of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica and currently a parishioner of Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford. Joan enjoyed bingo, traveling, trips to various casinos, and vacationing on cruise ships. She devoted her time volunteering with Hospice and Palliative Care, received great comfort and solace spending time with the Journey Together Hospice Bereavement Group and truly loved to be with family and friends. Mrs. Riemenschneider is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Michael Way of Whitesboro and Julianne and Stephen Gorczynski of Manlius, NY; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John, Jr., and Ann Marie Cox of Christianburg, VA and James Cox of Liverpool; two beloved grandchildren, Dan Gorczynski and Megan Gorczynski both of Manlius; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bette Hennessey of Whitesboro, Margaret and Neil Waterman of Whitesboro, Pat Cox of Whitesboro, Thomas Cox of California and Dorothy (Dewey) Cox of Utica; many dear friends, especially, Margie, Mary Ann and Irene; many nieces, nephews cousins and her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Bonnie Malakie of Waterport, NY. Mrs. Riemenschneider's funeral will be held on Thursday April 14, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:00 at Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Wednesday (today) from 4:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in New Hartford, Valley Health Services in Herkimer or the American Cancer Society in Joan's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Riemenschneider's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lynn Afinowich and her angels, the entire staff of Valley Health Services especially 1 west and the staff and many friend at Preswick Glen for the wonderful care and compassion given to Joan.
