Martin H. "Marty" Halpin, Jr., 83, of Clinton, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Abraham House in Utica. Marty was born in Utica on November 12, 1927, the son of Martin H. and Anna (McCabe) Halpin. He was raised and educated in Utica, attending St. Francis de Sales School. Marty then joined the US Navy, serving his country during World War II. On November 22, 1947, Marty married Adeline Kennerknecht. Mrs. Halpin passed away in 1989. He was employed with the Central Heating Plant at Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring as Foreman in 1982. Marty was a member of the Clark Mills American Legion Post # 26, a former member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills and a current member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Marty's favorite pastime was fishing at the Oriskany Creek or the Black River. He also enjoyed hunting as well as spending time with his family at the camp he built in Forestport. Marty is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Eric Maya, Rome; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin H. Halpin III, Holland Patent, Arthur and Michele Halpin, Barneveld; four grandchildren, Martin Halpin IV, Cary and Jim Campanaro, Jamie Lynn and Jamie Lachacz, and Eric and Katie Maya II, as well as by five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary and Gary Hudspeth, Missouri, Connie and Garth Gray, Florida, Cathy Gilje, Washington; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Halpin, Nancy Halpin, and Christine Halpin. Marty is also survived by his special friend and loving companion, Joan Scoones, Clinton. He is predeceased by three brothers, Patrick, Howard, and Robert. Mr. Halpin's funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton on Monday evening from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Abraham House or to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in Marty's memory.
