Jacqueline (Jackie) Baque Hinge, 81, of Barneveld, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28th with her sons at her side. Jacqueline was born on February 14, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Frances and Adam Baque. In 1946, her family moved to Richfield Springs, and Jackie continued her high school career at Richfield Springs High School where she graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1947. After attending the Utica School of Commerce, Jackie worked as a secretary in Utica for nearly a decade; for several of those years serving as a legal secretary for Ferris, Hughes, Dorrance and Groben. As a young woman, she was active in various community organizations and took great pleasure in singing and acting with groups including The Players of Utica. During those years, Jackie met the love of her life, Edward S. Hinge of Barneveld. Jackie and Ed were married on September 15, 1956, at St. Francis deSales Church in Utica. The Hinges went on to raise a family of four sons: Edward J., Adam, Joseph and John. Starting in 1959 for more than forty years, Jackie worked alongside Ed and was an integral partner in the management of their construction business and other family ventures (Edward S. Hinge, Contractor; Barneveld Homes) which eventually evolved as the Hinge Corporation. In addition to being an active work partner, homemaker, and extremely devoted wife, daughter and mother, Jackie remained active in community organizations through her whole life. Jackie loved music and was happiest singing and playing piano. One of Jackie's proudest contributions came her role as Director of the Senior Citizens' Choral Group of the Senior Day Center of Utica (who were to become known as The Silvertones). She originally began leading the group as a way to keep her parents active after retirement. Her involvement with the Silvertones quickly became a source of many longstanding friendships and a great sense of accomplishment. The group performed frequently at many local nursing homes and senior centers. Through her involvement with local senior groups, she was invited to serve on the Elderlife/Senior Day Center of Utica's Board of Directors (eventually serving as Vice President) and she remained very active in that capacity through the late 1990s. In 2008, she was presented with an Outstanding Service Award by the Parkway Senior Center in recognition of her 30 years of service to the Silvertones. As a mother to four sons, Jackie served as Cub Scout Den Mother, and could always be counted on to assist with innumerable school activities and functions. Jackie served as Field Captain for the American Cancer Society for the Town of Trenton. She was active in Holland Patent Community Theater, appearing over the years in productions of The Music Man Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls and Annie, among others. Jackie was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann's Church in Hinckley and later St. Leo's in Holland Patent. Mrs. Hinge was predeceased by her beloved husband Ed, in 2009, after caring for him devotedly through nearly two years of failing health. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Edward and Maria of Fairport, NY; Adam and Kathleen of Tarrytown, NY; Joseph and Jodie of Raleigh, NC, and John and Concepcion of South Orange, NJ; six grandchildren, Margaret, Edward (Ned), Tibor, Brigitta, Angelica, and Emily Jacqueline, and a step-granddaughter, Madeleine; sisters Kathleen Andrews of Mineola, NY, and Dolores LaSalle and brother-in-law Joseph LaSalle, of New Hartford, NY; and brother- and sister-in-law Bill and Suzanne Hinge of Barneveld. The Hinge family will be forever grateful for the loving care provided to Jackie by Teri Arthur and Laurie Fitzsimmons-Swald; and especially thankful for the kindness and care provided by the staff of the Masonic Care Community, particularly the Windham Neighborhood staff and Dr. Guy Wilcox. Calling hours for family and friends will be Wednesday (Today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Church in Holland Patent. A spring burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Edward S. and Jacqueline Baque Hinge Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc.
