Obituary of Camilla M. Nicotera

Miss Camilla M. Nicotera, 96, "affectionately known as Ella to her nieces and nephews", a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY and formerly of Lenox Ave in Utica passed away on Monday January 31, 2011 at the nursing home. Camilla was born in Utica on December 17, 1914 the daughter of Peter and Helen (Caprano) Nicotera. She was raised in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and earned her dental hygienist degree from Georgetown University. For 40 years, Camilla was employed as a dental hygienist with many private dentist and for 13 years with Utica State Hospital retiring in 1980. She was a lifelong devout parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica and was a member of the Christ Child Society and Dental Hygienist Association. Camilla was an avid flower gardening enthusiast, and enjoyed knitting, especially baby sweaters, and traveling with her sister Angela. She was a caring and nurturing woman, whose main passion and greatest joy were her nieces and nephews. Miss Nicotera is survived by her loving sister, Rose Sangregoria of Utica; beloved niece, Dolores and Richard Mundschenk of Utica; cherished great nieces and nephews, Susan and Dale Buell of Holland Patent, Sandra Jasinski of Utica, Robert and Judy Mundschenk of Vestal, NY and Gary and Stacey Mundschenk of Utica; and 8 great great nieces and nephews, Sarah Buell, Hannah Buell, Gregory Jasinski, Marie Jasinski, Rose Mundschenk, Alice Mundschenk, Alison Mundschenk and Olivia Mundschenk; She was predeceased by her sister, Angela Nicotera. Miss Nicotera's funeral will be held on Friday February 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Historic Old St. John's Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. In keeping with Camilla's wishes there are no calling hours. Her family will received visitors in the vestibule of church at the conclusion of the funeral mass. Those wishing to make a donation in Camilla's name, please consider the Sr. Mary Theresa Food Pantry at Historic Old St. John's Church 240 Bleecker St., Utica NY 13502. Miss Nicotera's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the cedar unit at the Presbyterian Home for the loving care and kindness you gave to Camilla during her time there. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica.
