Barbara J. Deno, 72, of North Utica, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. Luke's Home in New Hartford. Barbara was born in Ogdensburg, NY on May 22, 1938, the daughter of Lester and Ester (Recore) Pribble. She was raised and educated in Ogdensburg. On June 30, 1956, Barbara married George J. Deno in Notre Dame Church, Ogdensburg. Mr. Deno passed away in June of 2010. After moving to the Utica area, Barbara worked for the Utica School System as a hall monitor, where she was affectionally known by staff and students as "Peaches". She was a member of St. Peter's Church in North Utica. Barbara enjoyed crafts and was involved with local craft shows. She made pillows and blankets and was nicknamed "the pillow lady". Barbara also loved flowers, especially the African Violet, and belonged to the African Violet Society. Barbara is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Donna Deno, Marcy, and Tom and Cheryl Deno, Whitesboro; four grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Deno, Katie O'Neal, and Jennifer Deno, as well as five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Deno's funeral service will be held Tuesday evening, January 11, 2011, at 7:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road., North Utica. A spring interment will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ogdensburg. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 4 - 7 pm, prior to the service.
